Cheese is one of the first milk products known to humanity. The cheese production culture (homemade cheese production) has originated in Armenia since ancient times and preserved its traditions, continues today.
There are over 60 cheese producers in Armenia. Cheese is produced both in large and medium sized workshops. The local market today is full of cheese, both domestic and imported. The share of local production in cheese sales is over 92%.
According to the data published by the RA National Statistical Service, 19 929.9 tons of cheese was produced in Armenia in January-October 2016, which is 21.3% more than in the same period of 2015.
